Minutes
Public Ways Safety Committee
Bolton, Massachusetts
August 23, 2006

Members present: Barbara Bing, Leslie Breeze, Don Cole, Deborah Kellett, Cia Ochsenbein, and Dan Senie
Members absent: none
Others present: Chief Alfano, Sgt Bagdonas, Betsy Cussen

Meeting called to order at 7:10 p.m.

Minutes from the previous meeting were approved.

Traffic Rules and Orders Document: The document approved by the selectmen previously was missing some attachments and contained some errors so Betsy Cussen presented the  changes needed and the missing schedule(s). We went through the document deleting references to references no longer relevant and decided that
–The list of sign changes (recommendations from Officer Schleptz) including changing yield signs to stop signs will NOT be included at this time until we have reviewed each one.
–Restoration of “No Parking this side” signs will be added to the non-school side of Green Road  and to the non-Bower Spring side of Flanagan Road.
To finalize document, Betsy will get the text file  from Linda Day, make the required changes. Dan to confirm. Then we will forward to Board of Selectmen for RE-approval. This document allows the police to enforce existing signs.

House numbering:  The town is reissuing a notice to all residents that states requirements for correct way to show your house number. This is a priority to help emergency staff find your house in an emergency. Dan commented that the town may want to consider buying and issuing numbers in bulk to help people comply. Another suggestion is to get developers to include them in new housing developments, an item that we should be forwarded to the Planning board.

Recent memo/requests to selectmen:  The selectmen would like us to appear to discuss our June memo about signs. (possibly sept 7)

Annie Moore Rd complaint:  In response to a recent complaint, the chief will be notifying a resident of Annie Moore Rd, that the town will be clearing brush to improve visability at the sharp turn in the road near  #199.

Moveable pedestrain signs:  Dan is pricing new ones, since the old ones are few and damaged.

Main Street speed petition: Sgt Bagdonas has submitted the speed data near Manor/Harvard Road. The next step is that the Board of Selectmen  need to send a letter to the Area District Manager with a description of the area and reason behind pettion. Sgt Bagdonas will write a draft for them.

Committee vacancy: We have one applicant so far, (deadline open until August 31) and will arrange interviews at next meeting.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:30 p.m.

The next meeting is scheduled for 7:00 on Sept 13
